Gelandesprung Newsletters & President's Message

4th of JulyTo paraphrase--  O beautiful for spacious skies, for amber waves of grain.  For Wolf River rafting rides and biking through the terrain!—the Gelandesprung Ski Club Summer Events have been beautiful so far!  Please check our calendar on the website to see upcoming events.  We have Happy Hours scheduled in July and our Summer Picnic scheduled for August 1st.  Please stop out and join us—you may not recognize some of us without our ski gear on cool

To paraphrase Olaf in the movie “Frozen”:  Bees will buzz, kids will be blowing dandelion fuzz and I’ll be doing what a frozen thing does in summer….  With the kick-off of summer, we have quite a few events scheduled for the next couple of months.  Whether that is a night of Happy Hour, a bike ride, a baseball game or a picnic, it all leads to fun in the sun!  Please go to the Calendar at to find something fun to do with your ski friends each week.

Just as April showers bring new flowers, April elections bring new introductions!  Rick Huston was elected as our new Secretary!  He had been our secretary for quite a few years, so his experience and knowledge are welcomed.  My position was also up for re-election, as well as Adam Hanson’s (Social Events Coordinator).  We both were re-elected for another 2 years.  Judy, who had been our secretary, did not want to run for another term; rather would like to focus on other things.  Thank you Judy for all your hard work the past 2 years!

Our Spring Banquet is right around the corner on April 10th.  Please sign up using the form in this newsletter and join us for elections, the determination of the “Obtuse award of the Year”, the designation of the “Donny Steffens Award”, and upcoming activities.  In this newsletter, you will notice a ‘Helpful Tips” section that will be linked to our FAQ page on the website.  By using this link, you can always get to the past tips in case you need them as a reference.

As I write this, I am pack-ing for South Lake Tahoe and can’t wait to get there!!  Dick has some great skiing planned with many options.  A group of us are planning to ski at Kirkwood on Monday, Northstar on Tuesday (with a chili cook off to follow), Heavenly on Wednesday (with lunch on the hill) and Squaw on Thursday.  At the pre-trip meeting, Scott Stilp gave us all a great summary of the restaurants in this area—so we’ll have to fit that in too.  As you are reading this, we will have returned from Tahoe - hopefully all in one piece!
