The Gelande’Gnomes

Gelandesprung Gelande'GnomesThe Gelande’Gnomes of the Gelandesprung Ski Club

The gold teddy bear is called “Vikings on Holiday”.

The middle figure is “Ge’Wanda the Gelande’Gnome” .

The one on the right is the oldest gnome called “GNorm”.

To win a Gelande’Gnome, you must be nominated by someone for doing the “craziest” thing during the year.  The “craziest” thing doesn’t have to occur on a ski trip, it could have happened during a non-snow outing with the club.  These awards can be won by 3 different people, or by one 'crazed' individual, depending on the applause.

The History of our Gelande ‘Gnomes has been gleaned from Lori Helms and can be roughly summarized as:

“GNorm”:  This gnome was MIA when Randy and Lori Helms were officers, so they needed to come up with something new.

“Vikings on Holiday”:  the first year Randy Helms was an officer of our club, we were not welcome at some of the UP hotels because the hotels thought we behaved like “Vikings on Holiday”.   When Randy and Lori were in Disney World, they came upon a Viking helmet; someone found a teddy bear and gifted it to the club.

“Ge’Wanda the Gelande’Gnome”:   Before Randy Helms learned how to ski, Lori Helms went to Aspen.  She bought this for him as a gift.  He was not that impressed, so donated it to the club.
